What Does Clean Break Do?
Clean Break runs an innovative programme of theatre performances and new writing projects, drama-based education and specialist support, professional development and training, and advocacy. We want to:
- Challenge prejudice about women who have been on the receiving end of criminal justice.
- Enable women who are at risk of offending to fulfil their personal goals and ambitions, and to make informed decisions about their lives.
- Provide these women with the artistic and educational resources to make sense of their experiences and to voice the issues they consider to be important.
- Share and pass on our best practice and expertise to other professionals working in the criminal justice system.
Our activities are split into three core programmes:
Clean Break opposes all forms of discrimination and we are an equal opportunities
employer. We aspire to deliver consistently good practice and to set a high
standard of equal opportunities within our services, staff employment, Board
and advisory group structures, building and physical access and with the partnerships
we forge.
We are a women-only organisation and our work is delivered by an all-women
team who have strong skills, understanding and empathy, and a firm commitment
to Clean Break’s artistic and social principles. We provide a safe space
for women in our building which has been designed especially to meet the needs
of the women that we work with. A core set of values informs all of our activities:
respect for one another, equality of opportunity, recognising and embracing
diversity, and access to theatre and the arts.
