Our History

Clean Break was founded by two women in prison in 1979. From its roots as a small-scale fringe theatre company, it has grown today to become a critically-acclaimed new writing theatre company producing original work based on a unique research and development process. The production and new writing programme is now complemented by a highly respected and innovative year-round education and training programme. The Company maintains a commitment to social justice, personal and societal change, and the empowerment of women who have experienced the criminal justice system.
