The Clean Break Commission
Clean Break has a strong reputation for commissioning women writers and giving
them a remarkable and challenging research and writing brief. The resulting
production then tours to theatres and women’s prisons nationally.
Over the years, we have worked with highly regarded female playwrights including
Bryony Lavery, Winsome Pinnock, Rebecca Prichard, Jennifer Farmer
and most recently Linda Brogan. Writers currently under commission
are Chloe Moss, Naomi Wallace and Lucy Kirkwood.
We are currently developing new programmes of work including;
Changing Your Story - a writing development programme with
a professional emphasis for female writers who have an offending background
or are at risk of offending
PS - a post-show evening of newly commissioned short plays
by professional playwrights to run alongside our annual production.
Clean Break and Paines Plough – a writing residency
in secure hospital, followed by a co-commission.
