Bursting out of the theatre and into the bars, restaurants and stairwells of Soho, Charged presents the heartbreaking truth about the lives of women in the criminal justice system, exposed in six new plays by some of the most exciting and distinctive female voices in British theatre.
"In November 2010, Clean Break took over Soho Theatre with Charged – a season of six short plays by E V Crowe, Sam Holcroft, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Chloë Moss, Winsome Pinnock and Rebecca Prichard.
Each stand-alone half hour play had its own specific theme under the umbrella theme of women and crime. Each play occupied its own theatrical world and the audience journeyed through the plays from the top floor, to the main house and down to the basement. Written for a female-only cast, together these plays created a powerful, yet subtle conversation about women and society."

“Charged is a blisteringly powerful meditation on female experience not only behind bars but on the streets, in rehab, as mothers and as part of the police force. It's striking how the overall tone is not stridently feminist, but quiet and matter-of-fact. Charged feels more urgent for it.”
“ This is as impressive and exciting an array of writing, acting and directing as you will see anywhere. Oh, that our major subsidised companies would take such risks. Sobering, important and magnificently achieved.”
“Eye-opening and heart-breaking, you need to go once to Soho Theatre and then go back to experience all six of these startling, important plays.”
“The whole project is amazing! Wonderful new plays, beautifully directed, impeccably performed! A BIG THANK YOU!”
