Buddleia: the Unchained Story

The tale of Brenda, also known as Lady Unchained, a poet, performer, broadcaster and advocate for life after prison.

On the 9th February 2009, Brenda was sentenced to prison. She was arrested for protecting her sister, who was attacked by three women in a nightclub. During her time in prison, she fell in love with poetry. The creative arts was her saviour, and helped reinstate her faith in God after her unjust sentencing.

Soon after her release on 27th December 2009, Brenda immersed herself into doing poetry workshops, social work, and helping young people who are facing problems within the criminal justice system. She started her own poetry event called 'Unchained Nights,' where ex convicts can share their stories.

Brenda later went on to do a TED Talk, and became a radio host for a show called 'Free Flow' on National Prison Radio. This documentary explores the positive aftermath ex convicts can have on society, when provided by the right support, and guidance upon their release.
