This International Women’s Day, join us for a conversation around the bias and barriers within the creative industries facing women who have been criminalised.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Breaking the Bias’ - at Clean Break, we are committed to questioning bias and breaking down barriers, specifically for women who have experience of the criminal justice system who want to pursue careers in creative industries. We will be speaking about the barriers women face, the bias our industry holds, and what best practice looks like for creative industries who are looking to develop their practice and become more accessible, inclusive spaces.
We hope that creative professionals will come away from this event with a better understanding of how to dismantle barriers within their institutions and practices, and why excluding the voices of women who are criminalised from creative work means missing out on valuable perspectives and ideas.
We’re excited to be sharing the space with wonderful panellists who are experts in the fields of employment for women with convictions, and social mobility and cultural policy.
Giving insight and expertise from Clean Break, as well as holding the space, will be Lorraine Maher – our Participation Manager. Lorraine brings with her a wealth of experience through delivering our Members Programme – a theatre-based programme for women with experience of the criminal justice system, or who are at risk of entering it.
We will also be platforming some short performances by our Members, which will highlight the themes of the event.
The Women and Girls Match Fund
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are proud to be taking part in the Women and Girls Match Fund campaign led by The Big Give. Every donation made to Clean Break between 8 March and 15 March will be doubled. That means one donation, twice the impact. We are delighted to be bringing this event to you for free, so please consider donating the cost of your ticket to our campaign, if you can.
We are raising vital funds to support Hope, a new film co-created by women with experience of the criminal justice system in partnership with artists. Women will tell their stories of hope, as a radical and political act, to break the bias and challenge perceptions of criminalisation.
