We are opening our doors to offer you the chance to see two of our new works in development. The afternoon will consist of two script-in-hand readings, Blis-ta by Sonya Hale and Not Pretty Like The Rainbow by Daisy King. Each play is the culmination of a commission awarded by Clean Break to writers who have previously been engaged with us as Members for many years, and a chance for us to continue conversations and to start new ones.
Not Pretty Like The Rainbow by Daisy King
Not Pretty Like The Rainbow is a brash, brave, big hearted play which explores the dangerous ripple effect that imprisonment has on women’s lives. At a time when short sentences have been widely recognised as ineffective, Daisy King asks what this means for the women who are still serving time for six months or less?
Blis-ta by Sonya Rachel Hale
Blis-ta is based on Sonya’s experiences of homelessness and was inspired by a very special friendship she had while living on the streets. A moment where she felt she had found a true friend…
It is a story about two homeless girls as they struggle to survive on the streets. They end up setting up a brothel, cuckooing an old man’s house and all hell breaks loose…
