Without Walls Film Screening

Over film of the now deserted HMP Holloway site, shot as a POV sequence using steady cam, Clean Break Members who served time there share their experiences of the prison, the impact it had on them and their ideas about how Women’s Centres might prevent reoffending. Closely illustrating their comments, the footage is intercut with drawings by an artist, Erika, who drew a ‘postcard’ to mark every day of her 3-year sentence there.

Without Walls is one of three short films in a series entitled Invisible Walls, produced by ft’work. Hard-hitting and highly topical, the films respond to the Festival’s theme of ‘boundaries’ by revealing how social and physical boundaries interact to have a direct impact on people’s lives. A collaboration between an award-winning documentary filmmaker-turned-architect and grass-roots organisations, each film gives a platform to unrepresented voices, resulting in rarely heard frank and emotional exchanges.
