A mix of live performances at Clean Break written by Clean Break's artists and Members.
Clean Break is opening its doors for a limited run of Through This Mist: a cycle of work from our Members’ lives to bring us back together.
As the world was in the grip of loss and loneliness last summer, a group of leading female artists and Clean Break Members came together and took solace in collaboration and creativity. Through This Mist is a way to experience some of the outcomes of those unions and the beginning of our return to live performance.
Performed outside in Clean Break’s garden, this live performance features work created collaboratively by: Ayesha Antoine and Yvonne Wickham, Katherine Chandler and Nicole Hall, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and TerriAnn Oudjar, and Chloë Moss and Sarah-Jane Dent. It also features a song by Eddy Emenike.

Ayesha is a writer and actor. As a writer her credits include: a stage adaptation of THE ORCHARD OF LOST SOULS; and short film, FRAYED (Irresistible Films). Katherine is a writer. Sarah has been in several Clean Break productions including BACK TO THE FUTURE, NIGHT SHIFT, CESSPOLL, HEAR, MEAL TICKET and THERE ARE MOUNTAINS. Her credits include: LET THERE BE LOVE (My Dad Productions, 2020), CHANGE (Union theatre, 2019), CYWIFE (champ dog films, 2019), ZINA (Vault Fesitval, 2018), She was also in the company for The Donmar Warehouse's All-Female SHAKESPEARE TRILOGY (2016).
Eddy is an actor and singe. She has performed extensively with Clean Break including THROUGH THIS MIST (2021), MEAL TICKET (Latitude, 2015) and SWEATBOX (UK Tour, 2015). She also appeared in SEE ME NOW and TWELFTH NIGHT at the Young Vic and has released an album and 2 singles with EMI.
Nicole most recently performed in NOT PRETTY LIKE THE RAINBOW (Clean Break/Bunker Theatre, 2019). Her credits include: DEEP AND BENEATH (Hampstead Theatre), WHISPERED DREAMS OF THE MIDDLE PASSAGE (The Roundhouse), LONELY (Clean Break - Play in a Week), MISSING (Clean Break), CASUALTY (BBC), HARRY AND COSH (Channel 5), CRIMEWATCH UK (BBC).
Anna Herrmann is Joint Artistic Director of Clean Break. She has been working in the field of theatre and social change for twenty-seven years, specialising in theatre and education with marginalised groups in the UK and abroad. She has been with Clean Break since 2002 as the Head of Education, leading the company’s award-winning work with women in the criminal justice system and women at risk of entering it. Anna is co-author of Making a Leap: Theatre of Empowerment: A Practical Handbook for Creative Drama Work with Young People (Jessica Kingsley Publishers). She has an MA in Arts Education from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and a PG Cert (Distinction) in Race and Ethnic relations. She is a regular visiting lecturer on Applied Theatre courses at Universities across the Country and between 2006 and 2018 was a trustee of Leap Confronting Conflict; a UK based national charity specialising in youth and conflict. Anna is the co-chair of the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance and is also a trained coach and regularly mentors artists in participatory settings.

Morgan is a playwright and screenwriter. Her theatre credits include: EMILIA (The Globe, 2018/West End Transfer,2019/ International Tour, 2019), THE WASP (Hampstead Theatre/ Trafalgar Studios, 2015) and BELONGINGS (Hampstead Theatre, 2011). She has co-written several acclaimed immersive site-specific plays with Katie Lyons including YOU ONCE SAID YES, ABOVE AND BEYOND and ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS. She is under commission with Headlong and her play TYPICAL GIRLS, commissioned by Clean Break, is set to open at Sheffield Theatres.
Róisín is Joint Artistic Director of Clean Break. She has over fifteen years experience as a theatre director working in the UK, Ireland and internationally. For Clean Break she has directed THICK AS THEIVES (Theatr Clwyd), JOANNE (Soho Theatre and RSC) and HOUSE/AMONGST THE REEDS (Yard Theatre).
Amongst others, Róisín has directed for The Abbey Theatre in Dublin (A TASTE OF HONEY/NO ESCAPE/ PERVE/HEARTBREAK HOUSE, The Gate Theatre Dublin (THE SNAPPER), Sheffield Theatres (AFTERPLAY’), Leeds Playhouse (YERMA), The Tricycle (THE FIELD) and as Associate Director for Sherman Theatre (BEFORE IT RAINS, SLEEPING BEAUTIES and IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR).
Her awards include the Quercus Award (National Theatre) and the Young Vic Jerwood Young Directors' Award. She has been nominated for the Irish Times Best Director Award.
Chloë is a playwright and screenwriter. Her theatre credits include: SWEATBOX (Clean Break, 2015 & 2019), RUN SISTER RUN (Paines Plough/Soho Theatre/Sheffield Theatres, 2019), FATAL LIGHT (Soho Theatre, 2010 & 2011), THIS WIDE NIGHT (Clean Break/Soho Theatre & Off Broadway, 2008, winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn prize), CATCH (Royal Court, 2006) and HOW LOVE IS SPELT (Bush Theatre, 2004, & New York’s Summer Play Festival, 2005). She is currently under commission to the Royal Court and Headlong Theatre.
Terri Ann most recently devised and performed in INSIDE BITCH (Clean Break/Royal Court, 2019) and was Assistant Director for NOT PRETTY LIKE THE RAINBOW (Clean Break UK tour 2019). Terri Ann has appeared in GRASS and KILLING TIME (BBC, 2004), STEALING LIVES (Channel 4, 2004), RABBIT FEVER (feature film, 2006) and TRAUMA (feature film, 2004).
Yvonne has performed extensively with Clean Break including in SOUNDS LIKE AN INSULT (2015) and with Cardboard Citizens including CATHY COME HOME (2016), CELEBRATING RECOVERY (2016) and A FEW MAN FRIDAYS (2015). Her other acting credits include: EASTENDERS (BBC, 2020/2021), AND YET IT MOVES and CARNATION FOR A SONG (Young Vic, 2018) and YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTION and DUSA, FISH, STAS AND VI (Synergy, 2016). She has also toured schools in Hackney extensively with Immediate Theatre Company.
